Music is a need.
Performing is best when earnest and expressive, and performing and improvising should be balanced with honing and tinkering.
I have valued my time playing with musicians in venues and festivals equally as much as my time diving into deep places with professors and wiling away for days composing.
Equally too, the time walking up streams to secret places, or scuttling wildly on the bottom of the desert.
And I could never underestimate the long and true books spoken with friends and lovers and family, equally the wild rantings and musings shared with the most perfect of strangers.
When I write for others, I write music intended to bring musicians from all schools and circles into one space to play and experiment together.
When I write for one person, I look for the challenge.
When I write for myself and my family, I write strange little tunes with deliberate lyrics.
When I play, I just play ^_^
Enjoy!
